The House

Alright. Let’s look at this blueprint as a symbol of your mind and view that entrance area as the habit of meditation. Just like a foyer in a house it is used to access the rest of the house and act as a buffer between the other rooms. The front door acts as security and just inside we have a place to take off our outside clothes or dirty shoes before we access the other rooms. This is exactly how your mind works as well as it pertains to meditation. The first step is getting comfortable in the foyer. This is the habit of meditation and the safety within it.
It might sound easy at first and it truly can be. There are some common hurdles to this foyer that I would like to go over with you so that when you come up on them you feel prepared and know that these are normal steps in getting inside.
The front door! The entire security system to your house is based off this one entrance. And your mind will play tricks on you as you start to approach it. Many people talk about not being able to get comfortable but when asked about what part of their body was uncomfortable almost all of them said I just had to move. There are a few reasons this gets triggered, but I want to talk about the main two. First: Some people have a really hard time putting in the time for self-development, they have no problem putting time in for others but when it comes to self-care or self-development, suddenly they become very busy or can’t sit still. This is a very real issue and should be treated with care and patience. Second: Your mind is full of fail safes, so you don’t travel into it by accident. This will take intentional work by YOU, no one else can do this for you. No matter what hurdle you face, it will be up to you to know you are safe and giving yourself the respect that you deserve to allow that feeling of wanting to bolt to dissipate. And in time it will!!!
I cannot bring up respect for this process enough, but I will try to keep it to a dull roar. I want to break down why this is so important here before we even get into the higher lessons that you can access with meditation. If you treat your practice flippantly or without respect, think about what message you are sending yourself. I already illuded to the fact that you are starting this practice for self-care or growth and if you hold little value for the practice that you are creating then by extension you are also treating yourself with no respect, and in the back of your mind you will respond. Make this time sacred for you and your practice, set the stage for your space and your intent. Mute any distractions and make sure you give yourself the respect that you deserve.
