Difficult Situations

Generally speaking, we’re dealing with very emotionally charged and very heavy situations. In these moments nobody ever complains about feeling too much joy from somebody. If you’re in one of these situations as a support role, my recommendation is that you feel everything fully. Resisting those emotions can cause a lot of turmoil in oneself. If you are dealing with this situation because you’re in it rather than a support role, then I would also recommend feeling the situation fully and not resist those emotions. I want to remind you that your emotions are a tangible thing like volume of water and our body knows exactly what to do in order to process them, move through them, and shed them. It’s only our own stubbornness that locks them inside of our body pretending that they don’t exist, and this can lead to physical manifestations within our own body. I think the easy answer is that you should shield yourself in every difficult situation but in this case that would not be my advice. Difficult and heavy situations are difficult and heavy no matter which way you slice them and sometimes our ability to shield only prolongs what we need to process within them.  However, we can give ourselves the grace of going slowly through them and intentionally feeling as we do, so there is as little collateral damage as possible.
